Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has emphasized that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holds the exclusive right to determine its candidate for the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election in the state.
Obaseki made this statement during a visit to Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, to congratulate him on his recent victory at the Appeal Court in Bauchi.
Accompanied by the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, Obaseki stated that his relationship with his deputy, Philip Shaibu, is amicable.
He emphasized that Shaibu has the constitutional right to run for the office, and the party, through its members, will decide the flag bearer for the upcoming election.

Obaseki acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerians, stressing the need for leaders to address and find solutions to these difficulties rather than lamenting.
The visit to Bauchi aimed to discuss essential matters concerning the PDP Governors Forum and other issues affecting Nigeria.
Shaibu, the deputy governor, had declared his intention to contest the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State on the PDP platform, leading to tensions with Governor Obaseki.
Despite the differences, Shaibu apologized to Obaseki, seeking forgiveness and expressing a desire to work together for the state’s development.
