Venables led England to the semi-finals of Euro 96, a tournament hosted on home soil at Wembley, showcasing his tactical acumen and creating lasting memories for fans.
The team’s impressive victories over the Netherlands and Scotland endeared him to players and supporters alike, despite falling short in the semi-finals to Germany in a penalty shootout.
Gary Lineker, who played under Venables at Barcelona and later at Tottenham, expressed his devastation on social media, describing Venables as the best and most innovative coach he had the privilege of playing for.

Tottenham paid tribute to Venables before their Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, holding a minute’s applause, with both teams wearing black armbands.

Nicknamed ‘El Tel,’ Venables achieved success with Barcelona, leading them to the La Liga title in 1985 and the European Cup final in 1986.
His managerial career also included a stint at Tottenham, where he guided the team to FA Cup glory in 1991.
