The Abuja-based Appeal Court has overturned the tribunal’s ruling declaring the Kaduna State governorship election inconclusive.

The court also affirmed Uba Sani, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the rightful governor of the state.

Sani secured victory with 730,001 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Isah Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 719,196 votes.

Dissatisfied with the election outcome, Ashiru contested that Sani did not secure the majority of lawful votes and argued that the margin of lead was less than the total number of voters in units where the election was canceled.

Initially, the state governorship election petitions tribunal, led by Victor Oviawie, declared the election inconclusive and ordered a supplementary election within 90 days.

This supplementary election was to cover seven wards, four local governments, and 24 polling units with 16,300 registered voters, according to the tribunal’s directive.

In the appeal court, Ashiru sought to overturn the tribunal’s decision, citing discrepancies in the evidence relied upon for declaring the election inconclusive.

The court, in its judgment delivered on Friday, concurred with Ashiru, finding flaws in the tribunal’s reasoning.
