Athan Achonu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Imo State, is set to lead a protest with his supporters to challenge the results of the recently concluded poll on Thursday.

The demonstration is scheduled to take place at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, coming two weeks after INEC declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

Governor Uzodimma, the APC candidate, secured 540,308 votes, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 71,503 votes and Achonu, who garnered 64,081 votes.

Despite the declared outcome, both opposition candidates rejected the results, citing electoral irregularities during the voting process.

In a brief statement released in Abuja on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, announced the planned demonstration at the INEC headquarters.

The protest is set to commence at the Labour Party’s secretariat in Utako at 12 noon, with Achonu, party leaders, members, and supporters participating in the movement to INEC.
