In response to the escalating cases of kidnapping, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun announced that the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended 375 suspects and rescued 134 kidnap victims in the past 10 weeks.
The IG shared this information during his final conference with strategic police managers for the year 2023 in Abuja on Monday.
Egbetokun highlighted the significant achievements of police operatives during the ten-week period, including the arrest of 375 suspected kidnappers, 578 armed robbery suspects, 431 individuals for rape and other sexual offenses, 724 murder/homicide suspects, and 2,343 suspects for various criminal offenses. Additionally, the police recovered 419 firearms and 4,235 ammunition of various calibers.

The Inspector-General cited notable cases, such as the arrest of the robbers responsible for the deadly Otukpo bank robbery, the rescue of eight students from the Federal University Lafia who were kidnapped in Nasarawa State, and the interception of a consignment of illicit arms intended for distribution to IPOB/ESN camps.
This operation resulted in the arrest of a gunrunner and the recovery of 22 semi-automatic pump-action guns and 625 live cartridges.
