Two communities, Agojeju Odo and Abejukolo in Omala local government area of Kogi State, have been invaded by suspected herdsmen resulting in a tragic loss of life and destruction of property.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on Thursday when the bandits launched what appears to be a reprisal attack, causing significant damage and chaos.
Reports indicate that at least 19 people lost their lives, and an unknown number of houses were destroyed during the invasion.
Eyewitnesses on Friday, described how the attackers, engaged in a conflict with Agatu militia in neighboring Benue State, extended their violence to Agojeju Odo, Ajokpachi Odo, Bagaji, and surrounding areas, targeting farms and disrupting livelihoods.

One local resident, who tragically lost family members, explained that the herdsmen unleashed violence on the communities, alleging collaboration with the Agatu militia against them.
Expressing concern for the deteriorating security situation, another local resident emphasized the need for urgent intervention by Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and security agencies.
They described how the local police were overwhelmed and powerless in the face of the invaders.
In response to the incident, Kogi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, confirmed that 19 people were killed in the communal clashes and assured that security forces, including the police, counter-terrorism units, and the army, had been mobilized to restore calm and normalcy to the affected communities.
The situation remains dire, with significant damage inflicted on the communities, and residents are calling for immediate and robust security measures to prevent further violence and restore peace.
